The project
The concept of Strijp-S is combining work with living, all in a sustainable way. We used these concepts to create cohesion between Microlab and our CU building. The combination of these three concepts results in our overall CU project.

The project will focus on cohesion. Cohesion between funtions (working and living and social), cohesion between the buildings.

Strijp-S is an innovative area with focus on a sustainable future. This project will not only be sustainable for itself, but also make the west wing of Microlab energy-neutral.

The first three phases of the Strijp renovation were focused on making the old industrial area the place to be. This vision will be continued in the CU-project.

The concept started with a shape to complete Microlab quite literally. After that, a few adjustments were made to come to the final design:

First, the building reduced in width, to give space to the building next to Microlab and make the facade more visual

Second, the building moved away from Microlab, which creates a lively passage which leads to the entrances.

Third, there came a gap between the roof of Microlab and the new building. Even though the new building should be an extension of Microlab, it should also be a building on its own.
Last, the cut-out was designed. This was done to light up the passage, optimize the space and create better indoor environments by introducing extra facades.
